Nestled on the breathtaking Mykines Island in the Faroe Islands, Mykines Stova is a hidden gem that seamlessly marries rustic charm with soul-soothing cuisine. This quaint café serves as a warm refuge for hikers and explorers seeking to recharge after their adventures on the island.

The atmosphere is inviting, with a cozy interior that beckons you to sit down for a while and relish the moment. As you step inside, you are greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the scent of homemade treats, instantly making you feel at home.

One of the highlights of the menu is the Signature Fish Soup, celebrated by visitors as the window into the heart of Faroese cuisine. This dish features a rich and flavorful broth, brimming with fresh fish, herbs, and local ingredients that create a harmony of tastes. Ideal for warming up after a brisk hike to the Mykines Holmur Lighthouse, this soup has been described as both comforting and revitalizing—perfect for a chilly day. As noted by customer Adam Sokołowski, it's a must-have after a vigorous outing, ensuring you find solace amidst the windswept scenery.

If you have a sweet tooth, don't miss the homemade carrot cake that has garnered high praise from visitors like Gabriel Gheorghe. It's a delightful treat that pairs exceptionally well with their coffee, making it a perfect way to unwind while waiting for your ferry back to Vagar. Just remember to book your food in advance, especially the coveted fish soup, to avoid disappointment—as some customer experiences reveal. With only a limited supply, securing your meal ahead of time ensures that you don't miss out on this flavorful delight!

Beyond the delicious offerings, Mykines Stova is not just another tourist spot; it's a local treasure that resonates with authenticity. As highlighted by LongEr, the café primarily services private tour groups, which adds to its charm as a place rarely overrun with tourist traps. Visitors rave about the warmth of the service and the genuine connection fostered within this small kitchen, making it a fantastic place to spend a few hours whilst soaking in the local vibe.

In summary, Mykines Stova offers more than just a meal; it provides a cozy nook where you can rest your weary bones, savor hearty, homemade dishes, and bask in the tranquil atmosphere after a day of exploration. For anyone visiting Mykines, a stop at this charming café is not just recommended; it's essential.

Charming place and good to warm up with a coffee and some sweets or a soup.

Not a "touristy" place, so one can't expect much of a luxury. They however serve good fish soup, just what you need after a hike to the lighthouse on a windy afternoon. No better place to spend hours waiting for ferry to Vagar

Great fish soup after a walk up to the Mykines Holmur Lighthouse and a generous breakfast.

This place is incredible! Since independent travel to Mykines Island is currently not permitted, this café typically only serves private tour groups. However, the almighty Google Reviews have revealed the prices of the food here. Signature Fish Soup This is the star dish of the café, and the main feature of the afternoon tea served to tour guests. Many people on Google Reviews rave about how delicious this soup is — yet not a single person seems to know the recipe, and there’s no information about it online. It’s clearly one of those culinary blind spots for travelers — a humble, homey local dish that only insiders know how to make. This “granny’s recipe” has clearly never been publicly shared. And here’s where the tastebuds of a spice-averse foodie like me come into play: let me try to reverse-engineer this flavor using just my tongue. The basics are fish, carrot , cabbage, and . The soup's yellowish color most likely comes from turmeric or a mild curry — not the spicy Indian kind, but more like a gentle Japanese yellow curry. There's also a creamy note, which comes from a combo of fish broth, butter, and cream. Salt and white pepper are essential for depth and balance. Cookies When we first arrived in the morning, the guide offered coffee, tea, and hot water, along with some chocolate cookies . Sadly, no hot chocolate was available. Light Lunch Lunch consisted of smoked lamb slices in a sandwich, meant to be eaten along the trail — kind of like a picnic. One of the small sandwich halves had a slice of cheese inside. Afternoon In the afternoon, we had the signature fish soup and a slice of chocolate cake. There was no formal lunch or dinner on this tour — just light meals, sweets, and snacks. That said, if you calculate the value of all the food and drinks, it would probably come to over 300 DKK per person. But since it was all included in the tour package, there was no separate pricing. This tour may be pricey, but the overall travel experience was fantastic — especially getting up close photos of the adorably dopey North Atlantic puffins. And the fact that this signature fish soup is only available to tour participants, and not to walk-in guests, made me feel all the more lucky to have tasted it. This soup completely shattered my assumption that the Faroe Islands are a “culinary desert.”

First thing to do on the Mykines Island is to BOOK YOUR FOOD , before you go hiking! We spend the whole day in there, and we heard so many good things about the fish soup, but when we got to the restaurant, they were running out of soup. We didn't know (nobody said that on the reviews) that you need to book the soup, otherwise you will end up like us, buying toast ham and cheese. The carrott cake was amazing! 7 stars. There's 2 shops/restaurants door to door, "The Locals" and "Mykines Stova" and they are sharing the fish soup!

After being told we were told we would get a free bowl of fish soup with our tour I was skeptical but this was maybe the best soup I have ever head in my life! I wish they would come out with a cookbook so I can try to make it at home!

A warm and cozy cafe that was a perfect stop after the ferry to warm up and dry off - the fish soup was amazing (wish I could get the recipe!)
